Be Alert, keep ready Matthew 24-25

Matt Hearn

Jesus warns us, the end is coming and we are to be ready. Some day he will return, will he find you ready? His return is good news. He will put an end to all our anxieties and fears. No more sorrow or suffering, Jesus will make all things right and new.

What do we do while wait in these troubled times? Hold on to your faith, and put your trust in Jesus knowing that those who hold on will see the glory of God. Believe that these times will pass and we will live in the peace and presence for eternity. Be ready.

Matthew 24:42&44 "Keep awake therefore, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming... Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an unexpected hour."

Matthew 25:13 "Keep awake therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour."

Here is Peter on this same subject; 2 Peter 3; 9 "The Lord is not slow about his promise, as some think of slowness, but is patient with you, not wanting any to perish, but all to come to repentance. 10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a loud noise, and the elements will be dissolved with fire, and the earth and everything that is done on it will be disclosed.11 Since all these things are to be dissolved in this way, what sort of persons ought you to be in leading lives of holiness and godliness, 12 waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God."

Paul says this in 1 Thessalonians 5:1-5 Now concerning the times and the seasons, brothers and sisters, you do not need to have anything written to you. For you yourselves know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. When they say, “There is peace and security,” then sudden destruction will come upon them, as labor pains come upon a pregnant woman, and there will be no escape! But you, beloved, are not in darkness, for that day to surprise you like a thief; for you are all children of light and children of the day; we are not of the night or of darkness. So then let us not fall asleep as others do, but let us keep awake and be sober."

We will celebrate the return of Christ soon. The earliest Christians lived each day with expectation that today would be the day of his return. Each day is a day remember and celebrate Jesus' victory over sin and death. We wait with anticipation of the culmination. Make sure you have prepared you heart for that occasion. Be diligent in telling those you love to be prepared as well.
