Faith over Fears Mark 4-6

Matt Hearn

In Mark 4, You may be familiar with the story of Jesus calming the storm. What battle are you fighting?  What storm are you facing that is causing you anxiety, fear, and doubt?

Mark describes the boat as being swamped. That means a great deal of water was coming into the boat. Sometimes this means that a boat is filled with water, but is still floating.  Could the use of “swamped” be an exaggeration based on fear? How could Jesus be asleep in a swamped boat? He must have been floating on the cushion.

Mark then describes the fear of the disciples, many of whom were experienced fishermen. The men who knew when to panic, were panicking. When you are afraid, you feel out of control and you lose sight of what is true.

The response of the disciples is described this way, “They woke Jesus and said, ‘Don’t you care if we drown?’ Fear causes us to doubt the goodness of God and the plan that God has for us. I am sure the storm you are facing is intimidating. When I was told I had 12 months to live, it created a lot of fear in me. There is always the temptation to say to God, if you love me, why is this happening?

Here is something you need to know and live by: uncertainty is unavoidable, being fearful is optional.

If you look for God, He will show up in huge ways. Faith is confidence that God is on your side. If you ask him, God with open your eyes to see things as He sees them. He promises to work all things together for good to those who love Him and are called according to His purpose.

Faith is the antidote to fear. Allow your faith to give you victory over fear. Don’t be afraid to ask God boldly for what you need.
