Great expectations
When the bar is high, people rise to the level of expectation. When the bar is low we all settle into the path of least resistance. Here is Paul’s bar for leadership; 7 Since an overseer manages God’s household, he must be blameless—not overbearing, not quick-tempered, not given to drunkenness, not violent, not pursuing dishonest gain. 8 Rather, he must be hospitable, one who loves what is good, who is self-controlled, upright, holy and disciplined. 9 He must hold firmly to the trustworthy message as it has been taught. -Titus 1
Do our personal lives so reflect goodness and righteous. Are we so winsome, that it draws others to want to follow Christ? Have we allowed our circumstances to stand in the way of God's purpose in us?
Self-Control
11 For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. 12 It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age. -Titus 2
Do we have the strength and courage to control our thoughts, emotions, words and actions to the glory of God? Saying no to one's self is the greatest challenge.
So What?
8 This is a trustworthy saying. And I want you to stress these things, so that those who have trusted in God may be careful to devote themselves to doing what is good. -Titus 3
The "what is" is to do good and reflect the glory and goodness of our savior. Live a life worthy of the calling you have In Christ. Learn the secret of being content in any and every situation (Philippians 4:12).
