Lent Day 2 Matthew 3&4

Matt Hearn

Congratulations for making it to day two. Please share your thoughts and questions on Matthew 3&4 in the comment section below.

Psalm 125:1&2 Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion, which cannot be shaken but endures forever. As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the Lord surrounds his people both now and forevermore.”

What a wonderful image. God surrounds us like a mountain surrounds a city.

John comes to prepare the way for Jesus. Lent is a season of preparation for the resurrection, and the return of Christ. We do this by repentance and living the gospel. In what ways do you need to prepare you heart and mind for the celebration of Easter. Are you living as a person who is ready now for the return of Jesus.

This is John’s message long ago, and it’s a message that still rings through the ages. People came from far and wide to receive the sacrament of baptism as a sign of their repentance. John tells us to bare the fruit of repentance.

Jesus then goes into the wilderness to prepare for his ministry. When his time of self-denial Jesus takes up John’s message, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near”.

What habit or hang-up do you need to confess and repent of during this season. Remember, 1 John 1:9 says; “If we confess our sins he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness”.

What new habit do you need to pick up to more faithfully follow Jesus.

Pray: Father, search my heart to see if there is any offensive way in me. Let your will be done in my life. Thank you for you grace and forgiveness. Lead me away from temptation so that I may honor and serve you with my whole. Give me strength to serve you. Amen
