Audience:
The author of this gospel is the apostle Matthew. He is writing to a Jewish audience, so this gospel is from a distinctly Jewish perspective.
God is so good; his grace extends into places we don’t expect. He takes the broken of this world and uses them for his purposes. In Matthew 1 as we read through chapter one we see some unsavory characters. The purpose of the incarnation is to restore us to the father. Matthew is establishing Jesus’ heritage. He is a direct descendant of King David, and Father Abraham. Jesus is a true Israelite and the long awaited Messiah. If you were telling the story of your family you would probably not include these women; Tamar, Rahab, Ruth, and Bathsheba.
God uses outsiders. Wise men from the east are the first to understand what is happening. He invites these men into the most important story he will tell. How has God reached you and brought you into His story.
God can use you too. What is it that keeps you from stepping forward and answering God’s call on your life? Have you disqualified yourself? God wants to use you. The season of lent is a time to reflect, repent, and to step into a new reality with your father.
Psalm 124 reminds us of God’s love and watch care over you and me.
Psalm 124:8 “Our help is in the name of the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.”
